Representatives of the Harriers arriving on Sunday morning bearing “the Olympic Torch” at the start of the day’s festivities. The torch is actually a fair copy of the torch used for the 1948 Olympics which was carried through Overton on the way from Wembley Stadium to Torquay for the sailing events. The route was probably chosen because it went past the Laverstoke home of Lord Wyndham Portal who was President of the British Olympic Association.
