This appears to be the original pump house for the water works which is still in use today (2015). The sign over the door says, “Kingsclere & Whitchurch Rural District Council. Overton Waterworks”. Having been brought to the surface, from the chalk aquifer, the water is treated before being fed into the mains system – see next picture. Before 1935 houses obtained their water from individual bore holes with hand pumps located in the streets around the village.
