The peak of Paul’s running career was when he was selected to run for England in Aberdeen in the 1985 Milk Marathon – with a starting line of 1295 runners. He came in 9th with a time of 2:29:53. The winner had 2:22:54. Pauls best time in the London Marathon was 2:19:52. So he had definitely been in with a chance of winning. However, his consolation prize was to be part of the England team which won the International Trophy beating Wales, Scotland and the rest of Europe.
