The opening ceremony was performed by Sir Jonathan Portal who gave a very informative background to Overton’s historic sheepfair and the village’s relationship with Jane Austen. Miss Austen (the lady in yellow) arrived “unexpectedly” in her carriage and was warmly welcomed by Sir Jonathan.
