Robert Purdue – b.18.06.1809 d.03.01.1899. Descendant of the family of Prideaux of Devonshire who established a bell foundry in Taunton in the reign of Queen Elizabeth in 1602. Robert was a builder and Parish Clerk in Overton for 50 years. He married Jane Pearce of Oakley and had 7 children. The family lived in a small thatched cottage in Church Road. The cottage has since been demolished and a garage is now on that site. There is a picture of the cottage in the Church Road gallery.
