Builders on site at 4 Dellands in 1937 (looking north). From left to right, the men were Bill Webb, Bill Locke (bricklayer), Herbie Brown, Ernie Wake (carpenter), Alfie Shadwell (painter) & George Akehurst. The latter was Joby’s father-in-law. Joby Albert Holmes and his family, including Paul and his sister Ruth, who had both been born in Bridge Street, moved there from Laverstoke Lane. There were allotments by the house and vegetables and chickens provided food for the family during WW2.
