On 26th March 1941 there was a bombing raid on the village and Alice Enright was tragically killed as she rushed to protect her children. She is shown above with her husband Paddy. A neighbour, Harry Smith, was also killed and there were a number of other people injured. There was some damage to Portals Mill, and Overton’s railway station had a narrow escape when a bomb landed near the platform but did not explode.
